Do you know a young person who dreams about working in, on or around aircraft? On May 19, Van Nuys Airport (VNY) will welcome approximately 1,400 local high school students interested in exploring what careers the aviation and aerospace industries have to offer.

Van Nuys Airport (VNY) and the Aeroplex/Aerolease Group will co-host a “Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness Event” on Tuesday, April 25 to facilitate ongoing communication and collaboration among airport tenants, community representatives and emergency response personnel.  

On February 3rd, 2017, the Van Nuys Airport community lost a valued friend and advocate in the passing of Neil Looy at CAPS Aviation (formerly Corporate Air Parts, Inc.)

Progress on Tower Renovation Soars - 4/17/2017 09:41:43 AM

Renovation of the VNY air traffic control, which commenced last November, is approximately 38 percent complete. The project includes the installation of new communications equipment and technology.

On February 2nd, aviation-related business mentors were greeted by 34 students from Van Nuys High School eager to learn about the diverse career opportunities at Van Nuys Airport (VNY) during Groundhog Job Shadow Day. This annual event is held in partnership with Junior Achievement of Southern California (JASC).

Van Nuys Airport (VNY) participated as an exhibitor at the National Business Aviation Association’s 2017 Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference held on Feb. 7-10, 2017 in Fort Worth Texas. The event brought together 2,900 attendees and 541 exhibitors, both all-time records for the annual event.

Progress at the Park VNY, a 30-acre development project dedicated to propeller aircraft, is climbing full speed ahead.  Thanks to close collaboration among Pacific Aviation Development (PAD), Los Angeles World Airports and community stakeholders, the construction of numerous new hangars, tie-down spaces and other facilities have been completed.

Lighting the Way for Pilots - 4/17/2017 09:32:28 AM

Over the past several years, Van Nuys Airport (VNY) has installed upgraded airfield lighting that both assists pilots and saves energy!  Featuring upgraded approach, runway and taxiway lights, almost the entire airfield lighting system is now pilot-controlled and turns off automatically after 15 minutes without activation.

In 2009, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger successfully landed a commercial airliner on New York’s Hudson River that had sustained engine failure after striking a flock of geese upon takeoff.  Remarkably, all 150 passengers and five crew members survived. This incident continues to draw public attention to the threat of bird strikes faced by airports across the nation.

Don Schultz, a long-serving member of the VNY Citizens Advisory Council (CAC), has retired from the volunteer advisory committee after 31 years of dedicated service. On December 1, the Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) recognized Schultz for his dedication, and Airport Manager Flora Margheritis presented Schultz with a certificate of commendation on behalf of Los Angeles World Airports and local elected officials during the CAC meeting on October 6.

Santa Is Off to a Flying Start - 12/7/2016 04:30:50 PM

Santa is checking his list twice for nearly 400 students at Gault Street Elementary School in Van Nuys who are eagerly awaiting his arrival on December 15!  Santa and his ground crew, featuring a lively snowman and reindeer, will arrive in style on the school playground in a convoy of classic cars to spread holiday cheer and distribute surprise gifts to the student audience.
